Grill, Chill and Ju-ly!
As a little girl, I ran barefoot through the backyard, mason jar in hand, squealing with delight each time a firefly blinked its golden light. The thrill of chasing something that felt uncatchable only added to the magic.
Now I watch my grandchildren chase those same glowing wonders, and I see it all so clearly. The fireflies are more than insects, they’re symbols of moments we strive to catch and long to hold. A child’s muffled laugh after bedtime. A quiet porch conversation. A hand held, a prayer whispered, a familiar song remembered.
Moments, like fireflies, arrive suddenly and unexpectedly and just as quickly, they’re gone. I want to catch them and hold them close, but I’ve learned that what makes them sacred isn’t just the catching, but the care. Grip them too tightly, and we lose the wonder. Stay too distracted, and we miss them entirely.
May we all chase joy with childlike hearts. And when we catch it, cradle it softly, knowing the glow we hold, even for a moment, is a glimpse of God’s goodness flickering in the simple rhythms of everyday life.
Happy Hunting,
