Good Junes Only!
Texas Summer is filled with southern tradition, but few traditions capture the spirit of a Texas summer quite like our family’s favorite; a glass of sweet tea. More than just a drink, it’s a ritual of hospitality, poured generously for all, and always served cold enough to cut through the heat.
Sweet tea’s roots stretch back to the 1800s and continued to evolve as tea and sugar became more common in the South. Over time, the sweet, ice-cold version we know today found its way into gatherings across Texas. From backyard barbecues, to Sunday lunches, it became a symbol of welcome and comfort. This June 10th marks National Sweet Tea Day, a celebration of a drink that has refreshed generations through scorching summers and slow conversations alike.
So as June turns toward the heat of a Texas summer, consider this your gentle invitation to pause for a moment of tradition. Brew a fresh pitcher, fill a glass to the brim with ice, and take a seat on the porch as the evening settles. On a hot Texas day, few things do that better than a cold glass of sweet tea.
Stay sweet,
Amy Dettmer
