Oh My Gourd, It’s October!
The world is changing at an ever-increasing rate. Each day, something that wasn’t there before is now at the center of our thoughts and conversations. Our collective spheres of influence become more intricate as communication and reach spread, but at our center, we remain simply human!
I recently read it is believed humans have as many as 23 unique senses, a far cry from the original five. Yet even after seeing that list, one still elicits more cherished memories and feelings than all the others: the sense of smell. Scents have a unique ability to awaken memories with greater intensity than any other sense. The aroma of spices can carry us back to our grandmother’s kitchen. The scent of a newborn can stir tender memories of cradling our own child. Smell and memory are tightly woven into the fabric of our subconscious.
This October, I encourage you to get lost in nostalgia! Allow memories to flood back through the smells of a cool fall breeze, a wet pile of leaves, hot apple cider, fresh pumpkin pie, or a fire burning in the distance!
Happy remembering,
Amy Dettmer
Congratulations to our September homeowners!
